I've been talking with a couple people in Victoria, BC (some songbird and flock people are there) about doing a afternoon event near the Vancouver Openweb conference. With ActiveState, MozMess, Songbird, Flock, we have a small set of devs here that could take part. It's still in the idea phase, would be low-key.

Great idea Al and hope this become real. I wish even more there was a Mozilla event in the East Coast so it isn't so expensive to make it. I look forward for dates anyway!

You could try to have it close to OSCON dates, as there would be more hackers around at that time, in Portland anyway. They might take the jump down to the bay area.

Well, that sounds fine but will non-developers go to Vegas for a developers conference?

Leaving that aside, I can probably organize MozCamp with a few people. For what you describe, some institution would have to do the work and pay for everything to get going. I expect that MoCo and others will organize events after Firefox 3 is out the door but I'm looking at my proposal as kind of a grassroots thing that people in the community, like us, can do on their own.

3 days, in Las Vegas, all aspects of Mozilla - hacking the platform, building extensions, building xulrunner apps, 3rd party mozilla-based app presentations, getting involved with testing, tips and ticks for building better websites with gecko based browsers, ....

Great idea!

The key for stuff like this is plenty of notice so that people in places other than the bay area can make plans to attend.

Also, I'd love to see things be at least more than one day, again to justify traveling in.
