Tokyo Banana
by Al
I’m now back at work after my trip to Japan for the last couple of weeks.
While I was in Tokyo, I was able to experience the joy which is the Tokyo Banana. Think of a twinkie-like spongecake (without a shelf life measured in the lifespan of the planet) with a piece of banana in the center. That is the Tokyo Banana.
When R and I were waiting at the airport in Tokyo, we found a vender that sold them. We’d seen them at the train stations but we knew that there had to be a convenient source because R’s co-workers at Six Apart always brought them back from Japan. Overcome with joy, we bought several boxes so we could both take them in to work.
Now, fortified with a foreign food product, the Mozilla QA team soldiers on!

My daughter and I just got back from ten days in Japan. The Tokyo Banana was one of our favorite discoveries…not only because the damn things are so tasty, but because that nutty logo (the banana with a bow) bears a vague resemblance to Zippy the Pinhead.
I wish I had brought back some Kurobe Bananas…those are the ones with the dark, chocolatey exterior. Viva Tokyo Banana!
I loved Tokyo Banana, I tasted it the first time more than 8 ys ago when my brother bought it back from Japan.
It’s very yummy.
Could anyone tell how much it cost per box now? in JPY, my hubby goes to Japan sometimes but he doesn’t konw it. If I send him your link, he may be able to buy back home
Thanks
I don’t recall how much they cost. It was pretty cheap. Maybe 1,000 or 1,500 yen for a box?
I just returned from Tokyo and also fell in love with the mysterious yumminess that is a Tokyo Banana. A box of 12/14 (I can’t recall off hand which) was about $14.00 in the Tokyo airport.
I just finished my last Tokyo Banana but still have 3 Choco-Bananas left! I returned from a 2 week trip to Japan on Saturday, June 7.
Tokyo Banana was the best thing that I brought back…my children fell in love with them…along with the Aomori Apple Gel Cups!
Is there any place you can buy these on line or in the states?
… WOW! I bought tons of them in my trip to Tokyo beginning February … I also love the “dry” version (very similar to puff pastry) … and I just got the choco-banana from my Japanese boss … ! :)
but I only found them at Tokyo station and not at the airport…
